As one of the eleven academic departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers an undergraduate major in FLL, with major concentrations in 14 different languages including Arabic, Ancient Greek, Chinese, English as a Foreign Language, French, German, Hindi-Urdu, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Persian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. We offer a major with six different language concentration options, more than 10 minors, an MA in Foreign Languages and Literatures (tracks in French, Spanish and TESOL), and specialized certifications.Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Japanese cultural studies. We seek candidates with research and teaching expertise in Japanese language and culture. Other Responsibilities:
The strongest candidates also will have demonstrated research and teaching interest in contemporary Japanese cultural studies. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the intermediate and advanced language levels with some classes in Japanese culture studies.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Departmental and university service.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the department head.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Applicant must have a PhD in Japanese, Asian Studies, Cultural Anthropology, or related field.
- Applicant must demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence, strong research and publication skills, and future research productivity.
- Near-native fluency in both Japanese and English.
- The ability to carry out an original research agenda in Japanese culture studies or literature.
- Strong commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Excellent communication and social skills
Required License(s) or Certification(s):
- Teaching experience in Japanese language and/or culture at the university level, and demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence.
