South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Custodial Manager.

The Custodial Manager reports to the Director of Facilities and is responsible for the management of the Custodial program for all of SPSCC. This person will mainly work on the Mottman campus but will be required to travel to the other SPSCC sites frequently.

Exercising discretion and independent judgment, this position is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining a cohesive custodial department. Duties are performed independently and with minimal supervision or approval of supervisor. Individuals assigned to this position are expected to be proficient in the essential functions listed below and others of similar complexity in accordance with established custodial policies and procedures.

What You'll Do

 

  • Plan, direct, and manage efficient custodial operations. Primary areas of responsibility include the care, cleaning, and upkeep of facilities, event support services, regulatory compliance, chemical management, and hazardous material response.
  • Responsible for the inspection of college facilities, equipment, and buildings to ensure safety and compliance with the Cleaning Industry Management Standards, APPA custodial levels of cleaning, and CDC disinfection guidelines.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and assign employees; resolve issues and concerns with employees; provide corrective action in compliance with College policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Plans, develops, and directs the activity of the custodial program; Utilizes Megamation Directline work order management system, and 25Live event scheduler to monitor work needs and accomplishments.
  • Formulates and implements Custodial program policies and procedures; Ensures compliance with staff.
  • Coordinates and implements all training for Custodial staff: new hire, safety, health, environmental, chemical, hazard, equipment use, preventive maintenance, and other related training needs.
  • Manage inventory of tools, supplies, repair parts, and equipment necessary to maintain all aspects of custodial services.
  • Assist in preparing and managing the facilities budget; authorize and order purchase of new equipment, repair parts, materials, and services necessary for department operation; Creates electronic Purchase Requests; Reconciles Purchasing, and audits annual expenditures.
  • Provide employees with clear guidance on work priorities and expectations for meeting service delivery standards through hands-on training and feedback mechanisms;
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Qualifications You Possess

    Minimum Qualifications:
     

  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience, or equivalent combination;
  • Custodial Management certification or related industry equivalent;
  • Experience with the preparation and management of annual budgets;
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and methods used in custodial maintenance of buildings and facilities;
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment interacting with faculty, fellow staff members, students, and vendors from diverse backgrounds;
  • Must be familiar and competent with computer programs to create workflows, process work orders, document inspections, manage department database inventories, workloads, and operational information.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications.
  • Flexibility -- The ability to respond and adapt to new and changing situations;
  • Ability to plan and conduct training or instruction;
  • Cross Cultural Communication -- Verbal and nonverbal communication skills in interaction with those who are culturally different from one's self;
  • A valid Washington State Driver’s license

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management or related field;
  • 6 or more years of custodial management experience in a unionized environment;
