University Communications has an opening for a full time University Staff (unclassified) Director of Social Media.

Nature of Work

The director of social media oversees the university’s and the Chancellor’s social media presence, fostering engagement with CU Denver by cultivating a community and delivering content that aligns with the university’s brand and the Chancellor’s executive communications platform. The position also designs strategies to help the university achieve its marketing objectives through organic social media and is a key advisor and tactician in executive digital strategy and visibility. The director is expected to act as the social media caretaker, ensuring that all content published on CU Denver’s channels is up to brand standards and industry best practices, and as a strategic communicator adviser and support to the Chancellor, using social media as a key set of channels to advance executive communications goals.

Other key working relationships include the Chancellor, the vice chancellor of University Communications, senior directors of creative and web, directors of executive communications, communications, and public relations, and enrollment management and marketing leadership and staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

    Set strategy for the university’s and the Chancellor’s social media presence. Serve as the ongoing and long-term strategist and day-to-day counselor and community manager for the Chancellor’s social media channels, including Twitter and LinkedIn. Develop and implement social media strategies, campaigns, and plans to build brand awareness, deepen engagement, and drive action in support of CU Denver’s marketing and reputational objectives and the Chancellor’s communications goals.Build and execute social media plans for priority events and initiatives, to ensure university and/or Chancellor is engaging before, during, and after events occur. Establish overall KPIs and metrics and produce quarterly and annual reports to share progress and impact.Oversee day-to-day management of social media campaigns and ensure brand voice and consistency.Oversee social monitoring, surface issues to the appropriate parties and manage channels during times of crisis or issues management.Create, maintain, and grow new and existing social networks.Oversee dynamic content calendars for institutional and executive channels.Monitor social media progress using industry-standard analytic tools.Incorporate optimization strategies, analyze data, and research best ways to increase awareness and engagement.Review success of campaigns and develop ways to improve performance.Identify and build relationships with social media influencers to build visibility, followers, and engagement.Engage with audience members on platforms and process and resolve audience complaints, as appropriate, through social media.Research and analyze new media platforms, trends, and industry opportunities, as well as changes in platform management/algorithms. Write briefs/POVs on recommendations and/or impact of opportunities and changes.Create effective content for multiple platforms, websites, and social networks; on tight deadlines with high degree of accuracy. Collaborate with cross-functional team members to brief, concept, create, review, and refine social content assets, ultimately growing pipelines of photos, graphics, videos, carousels, stories, polls, threads, and other content formats designed to engage with each of our audiences.Develop and maintain social media policies and practices; provide education and encourage adoption across the university.Serve as a social media consultant and quality controller for departments across the university.
    Effectively supervise, mentor, and coach direct reports/contributors and distributed social media content creators across the university.

Salary and Benefits:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $86,141 to $105,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in marketing, digital media, journalism, English or related field.7 years of social media management experience.Must have tactical knowledge of all relevant social media platforms, features, and industry best practices.Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.Must be proficient using social listening tools.Must have direct experience managing executive-level social media channels and providing. social media and other communications counsel to senior executives.Supervisory experience.
Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

    10+ years of social media management experience.3+ years supervisory experience.Direct experience in higher education.Experience working for a large, complex company or organization with multiple stakeholders.Experience working in a PR, creative, or digital agency.Video production experience (concepting, creating, and editing videos for social).Graphic design experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, including knowledge of current best practices in DEI trends and experiences in social media space.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong understanding of both organic and paid social media strategy.Understanding of social media best practices for thought leadership and executive visibility.Ability to authentically reflect the needs of specific audiences through social strategy and content storytelling.Knowledge of image and video editing software, analytics tools, and social listening and reporting tools.Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.Experience with technologies and best practices for community management, web design, web production, and creative design across multiple platforms.Experience working with copywriters, designers, photographers/videographers to produce assets optimized for social.Experience creating social-first creative campaigns.Excellent analytical and time-management skills and attention to detail.Experience managing social channels during times of crisis or issues management.Strong project management skills with ability to supervise multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.Discretion and confidentiality in addressing sensitive and high-profile issues affecting the university’s public image.
