The Health & Wellness Center, at Macalester College is seeking to hire a Receptionist. This position serves as the primary point of contact for students seeking medical, counseling and health education services. Provides reception, phone answering, scheduling, and general office/operations support.


This is an 0.80 full time position with the full Macalester benefit's package. 


About the Health & Wellness Center: 

The Health & Wellness (also referred to as The Laurie Hamre Center)  offers integrated medical, counseling, disability, health promotion, and sexual violence prevention services and programs for all students and serves as a resource supporting the entire Macalester community’s effort to build a healthy campus. We are dedicated to providing care, support, and connection to resources for students of all identities.


The mission of the Laurie Hamre Center for Health & Wellness is to create a healthy community by working with students to achieve physical, emotional and social well-being while promoting the value of life-long learning and health.

  • Patient Communication
    • Interacts positively and professionally with patients and other college/community contacts, both in person and through phone and electronic communications; answers phone; understand operations of the office and policies and procedures of the office and college to effectively, accurately and completely provide information to and obtain information from patients and other contacts; take and relay messages to appropriate persons.
  • Appointment scheduling
    • Schedule appointments using established protocols, coordinates triage traffic, prints encounter forms and provider schedules, sends appointment reminders (electronic or phone)
  • Prepares necessary records for providers and has appointment complete needed paperwork (ex: privacy forms, counseling intake forms); provides directions to community resources and referrals as needed; assists students with taxi cab transportation.
  • Assists with forms scanning, data entry, and other administrative work for records, referrals, projects; assists with varied Health & Wellness Center projects and tasks as needed (ex: create cold care kits, prepare handouts).
  • Assists co-workers in performing tasks within the scope of the office operation to equalize workloads, provides excellent service and promotes the smooth functioning of Health & Wellness Center.
  • High School Diploma required. Associate’s Degree preferred. 
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical or health office setting or customer service.Past experience in a college setting is desirable. 
  • Front desk operation or experience in customer service; healthcare organization experience helpful. 
  • Ability to problem solve around complex, shifting demands and expectations of students and staff; managing appointment schedules to maximize service to students and staff efficiency. 
  • Basic projects related to position- initiate, coordinate and complete. 
  • Electronic records; familiar with internet research, proficient in email management and basic knowledge of social media platforms. 


Compensation & Benefits: 

This is a non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $18.00-19.31 and Macalester’s full benefits package.
