Reporting to the Director of Alumnae and Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director is responsible for building relationships with Wells alumni to engage them in activities that will enhance the future of our college. This position will implement a strategic approach to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumnae and alumni as partners, advocates, and investors. 

This position will play a vital role in helping the advancement office achieve its engagement and alumni participation goals, by serving the essential needs of Wells College, meeting the desires of alumnae and alumni, and interacting with the following (but not limited to) College departments: admissions, academic and student life support, career services, and class and affinity groups.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director of Alumnae and Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director designs, develops, and manages alumnae and alumni engagement opportunities and programs to engage, cultivate, and educate alumni, parents, friends and students on personal, professional and intellectual levels to encourage their increasing support of Wells College.

  • Manages all regional engagement opportunities and program evites and newsletters via website, email and telephone.
  • Is the first point of contact for alumnae and alumni calling the main Advancement telephone.
  • Enhances and fosters deeper partnerships, engagement opportunities and programs with campus departments including, but not limited to, the Office of Advancement, the Career Center, the Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs, and Admissions.
  • Communicates, collaborates, and coordinates with the Advancement team as well as various constituent offices and departments throughout campus to provide pre-planning and onsite management of assigned engagement opportunities and programs for alumnae and alumni, including (but not limited to) Reunion, Fall Weekend, the Women’s Leadership Conference Series, I Heart Wells Week and other alumnae and special events. 
  • Develops and supports programs and communications related to Alumnae and Alumni Engagement, including Learning by the Lake, A2A monthly content, solicitation of Class Notes and developing content for Wells Notes and other publications.
  • Generates ideas to create content for campus communications, social media and marketing and will communicate with alumni through web portal, emails, and newsletters. Interviews alumni to develop content for Advancement and College communications.
  • Assist the Director of Alumnae and Alumni Engagement with the analysis of programs, compiling of recommendations for program refinement reporting, and assessment and ROI for alumni engagement events and programs.

  • Is a demonstrated self-starter, with proven results-oriented performance.
  • Possesses task completion organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member, and also possesses strong independent motivation. 
  • Knowledge of program and event coordination, and the ability to develop high-quality alumnae and alumni engagement opportunities and/or special events.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising principles
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in volunteer management with the proven ability to manage and train volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency and collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution, while exercising discretion and diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Excellent skills in cultivating relationships with the ability to understand and tend to the needs of the alumni body, enthusiastically, promptly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach with the proven ability to cultivate communication and foster team work with a diverse audience including alumnae and alumni, donors, faculty, staff, parents, and students.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and analyze data and produce metrics.
  • Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically MS outlook, Word, and Excel. Other software proficiency in databases and web-based applications.
  • A high level of independence, with the ability to work effectively and successfully with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in customer relationship management (CRM) systems
  • Ability to travel extensively. Attendance at evening and weekend events is required. Willing to travel using all forms of transportation. 

Experience:

  • Preferred: Experience as a leader in a volunteer setting         
  • Preferred: Experience in a higher education setting as a volunteer or employee
  • Special consideration will be given to qualified candidates who are alumnae Or alumni of Wells College
  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer management and program development
  • Experience in alumni relations or customer relations and engagement or related field

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
