Organizational Unit Overview:The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, in conjunction with Vidant Medical Center, provides a broad range of clinical services in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology for hospital and clinic patients. The Department houses residency, cytopathology, forensic pathology, and surgical pathology fellowship programs. The mission of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is to improve the health and well-being of the citizens of eastern North Carolina and beyond by delivering high quality pathology services, by providing exemplary education for medical students, residents, and other health care professionals, and by creating new knowledge through research. As the field of Pathology continues to evolve, the Department will continue to uphold its commitment to provide the best diagnosis and treatment monitoring services to the citizens of eastern North Carolina.
Job Duties :Responsibilities for this position include excellence in teaching; research (including publications in scholarly, refereed journals and presentations at learned societies); service to the department, school, university, and profession; and any additional duties assigned by the department chair. The incumbent for this position will serve as the Head of Microbiology at Vidant Health and will be expected to fulfill all CLIA/CAP responsibilities of the technical director. The incumbent will teach residents and the infectious disease fellow as well as medical students in the area of routine Microbiology laboratory testing as well as molecular testing. The incumbent will also work with colleagues and develop a translational research program in the area of Microbiology.
Minimum Education/Experience :Candidates must have a MD, DO, or MBBS from an accredited school.
Must be board certified or board eligible in clinical pathology or combined anatomic pathology and clinical pathology.
Board certification or eligibility in one or more clinical pathology subspecialties is required.
The candidate must be eligible to obtain an active North Carolina medical license.

Diagnostic experience or fellowship training in microbiology.
