Job Summary

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Career and Transfer Manager is responsible for the planning, development, and management of STEM grant student related activities. This position provides academic leadership, serves as an integral member of the College administrative teams. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

This is a temporary grant funded position.

This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops plans and implements STEM-related and transfer activities
  • Works closely with STEM department Chairs, Directors, and Deans and assists the Director with the preparation of all grant related reports
  • Conducts workshops and transfer success sessions in collaboration with academic areas
  • Mentors, tutors and advises STEM students and Grant Ambassadors
  • Handles transfer advising and reviews students academic records to ensure all program pre-requisites are being fulfilled
  • Assists with the establishment of an Academic Affairs-Student Services Committee for STEM
  • Oversees development of support materials to enhance student recruitment, retention and completion of transfer
  • Coordinates career services, internships, and transfer services to meet program goals and grant reporting requirements as assigned
  • Identifies and works with STEM constituents to establish outreach activities and transfer opportunities for students
  • Coordinates collaborative efforts with Miami Dade County Public Schools to include High School partners to help deliver STEM-related activities
  • Assesses student retention and identifies need for interventions
  • Monitors and documents project progress
  • Provides opportunities for engagement strategies into target STEM pedagogy
  • Assists in the project evaluation and data management
  • Serves on College committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in a STEM field discipline and two (2) years of practical work experience in student administration or education; or Bachelor’s degree in STEM field with six (6) years of practical work experience in student administration or education
  • Knowledge and understanding of college career services and College-wide policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of support programs and ability to make proper referrals
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and quantitative skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and team-building skills; proven negotiation/consensus-building skills
  • Skilled in serving multi-cultural, socially, and disadvantaged populations
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment
