Building upon its commitment to broaden research and teaching on the societal impacts of technology, the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for an open rank tenure-track engineering faculty position to be affiliated with the newly launched UCLA Institute for Technology, Law, and Policy (ITLP).

ITLP is jointly housed in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science and in the UCLA School of Law. ITLP advances cross-disciplinary research on the interplay between rapidly changing digital technologies and law, public policy, and society generally.

Applicants for the position must have a demonstrated record of excellence in, or show exceptional promise for, high-quality research, teaching, and professional development on the broader impact of advances in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, computing, cybersecurity, communications, signal processing, or encryption. Applicants must have an earned PhD in an engineering discipline by the date of hire. In addition to excellence in engineering, applicants are expected to have demonstrated an ability to do impactful work on the broader impacts of the digital technology areas in which they specialize.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform research, publish, and teach in their engineering discipline as well as to have a strong focus on engagement with, and advancement of, law and policy approaches to respond to the opportunities and challenges raised by the changing technologies. The School is most interested in applications at the assistant professor level, though applications for appointment at the associate or full professor level will also be considered.
