Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Director for Facility Operations, this position is responsible for the planning, management and supervision of facility operations and aquatics. This includes personnel management and supervision of student employees working in the facility operations/aquatics area. Work with colleagues to manage a comprehensive collegiate recreation program, and assist with the selection and delivery of recreation activities and student employment practices that contribute to student success and wellbeing.

Essential Functions

  • Personnel Management: Select, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student facility operations and aquatics staff. Coordinate the development of learning outcomes associated with student employees. Provide leadership for student staff to enhance skills through continuing education, trainings, in-service meetings, workshops and conference attendance.
  • Facility Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of recreation facilities that include the Recreation Center, Auxiliary facilities, and pools to ensure efficient and effective operation and maintenance. This includes: assisting with the purchase, repair, & replace equipment recommendations and schedules; working with internal & external vendors; assisting with locker rentals.
  • Program Management: Assist in developing and evaluating policies and procedures for effective customer service; short and long-term planning strategies related to facility & program management; and risk management strategies and policies.
  • Fiscal Management: Assist in the development and administration of facility operations budget. Regularly reports assessment and statistical data pertaining to operations, participation, & staff development.
  • Other Functions

  • Performs related duties, as assigned or required, to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives

  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of collegiate recreation full-time equivalent experience; or Master’s Degree in Athletic Management, Recreation Management, Facility management, Physical Education, Sport Management, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field with 1 year of collegiate recreation full-time equivalent experience
  • Lifeguard certification from a nationally-recognized agency
  • First aid/CPR/AED instructor certification obtained within one year of hire from a nationally-recognized agency
  • Lifeguard instructor certification obtained within one year of hire from a nationally-recognized agency
  • Ability to train and supervise student employees
  • Ability to plan and prepare presentations/training to diverse populations
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills, including, but not limited to, communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to recommend purchasing decisions based on independent research and judgement
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret industry standards, related to safety of participants, in a recreation facility setting as a risk manager
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    Certification(s) from a nationally-recognized agency:

  • Lifeguard instructor certification
  • Water safety instructor certification
  • Pool operator or aquatic facility operations certification
  • First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification

    Work Schedule

      37.5 hour per week position; must be available to work evenings and weekends
