Saint Michael's College announces the search for a Dean of the Faculty who will serve as a dynamic academic leader and a champion both of the liberal arts and the power of education to lead students to lives of success and purpose. The integrated nature of the College means that it functions as one academic unit comprised of approximately 111 full-time faculty, encompassing 44 undergraduate majors and four graduate degree programs. The Dean works with the Vice President for Academic Affairs to administer all of the academic programs and requirements, including the areas of faculty support, curriculum development, and assessment of learning outcomes. In addition, the Dean works with Department Chairs and Program Directors to oversee and coordinate the evaluation of all faculty. The Dean provides leadership regarding the value of diversity and inclusion in the curriculum, pedagogy, and campus environment. Department Chairs and Program Directors, the Associate Dean, and the Associate Director for Innovation and Non-traditional programming all report to the Dean. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Saint Michael's College is a Catholic, residential, liberal arts, Phi Beta Kappa institution devoted to student engagement and success. As such, the Dean provides leadership in fostering a culture of teacher-scholars who balance academic rigor with support in student interactions, innovating in response to shifts in the higher education landscape, and assessing to create a culture of continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will become a key member of the academic leadership team at an exciting time for innovation in the implementation of a new strategic plan entitled “Forward with Purpose” just adopted by the Board of Trustees, and developed under the leadership of Saint Michael’s College’s Seventeenth President, D. E. Lorraine Sterritt, Ph.D. The successful candidate will have either solid experience in academic administration, or be poised to move into administration after having built a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service on key faculty committees and departmental leadership.

This is a twelve-month staff/administrative position whose incumbent will also hold a tenured position in a department at Saint Michael's College. Start Date: July 1, 2022.
