Tenured-Track Professor Series
University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: JPF06906

The Department of Human Genetics at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in collaboration with the Institute for Precision Health at UCLA (https://www.uclahealth.org/precision-health/) is searching for a tenure-track professor to join our faculty (http://medschool.ucla.edu/human-genetics). Preference lies at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at Associate or Full Professor will receive full consideration.

We are seeking applications from candidates in all areas of human genetics and genomics. Physician scientist applicants are also encouraged and would have the option of a primary appointment in a suitable clinical department. We are especially interested in candidates who will take advantage of the recently established Institute for Precision Health (IPH), a virtual center that brings together faculty across clinical medicine, computer science, engineering, public health, and the social sciences. The Institute is recruiting 150,000 patients with genetic information as part of its ATLAS community health initiative and aims to provide a resource of genetic and genomic data from these patients coupled with deidentified health data from the patient electronic health records.

We particularly encourage applicants interested in developing high throughput screens and functional analyses using CRISPR engineering, clinical geneticists with research programs in specific disease areas, and computational biologists with an interest in combining information from electronic health records and genetics. Other IPH-related initiatives include the Center for Smart Health, the California Center for Rare Diseases at UCLA, the accredited MS Program in Genetic Counseling and the Depression Grand Challenge.

The UCLA genetics community has a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaboration, including with faculty in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Broad Stem Cell Research Center, the UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics, History, Sociology, and Law. Beyond the Department of Human Genetics, UCLA has many other world-class geneticists in departments such as Biomathematics, Biostatistics, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry.

The Department is seeking candidates with the potential for being outstanding in the above noted requirements, in clinical work, in research, in teaching, and in having a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, staff, and trainees.

Basic Qualifications: Candidates should hold a PhD, MD or equivalent

The Department encourages candidates to apply who have experience in and who have demonstrated commitment to working with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.

UCLA is a public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1919 and is the second oldest of the ten campuses affiliated with the University of California system. UCLA offers over 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines and enrolls about 26,000 undergraduate and about 12,000 graduate students from the United States and around the world every year.

UCLA features the College of Letters and Science, seven general campus professional schools, and four professional schools for the health sciences. The UCLA College of Letters and Science has 34 academic departments and 900 faculty, and houses the majority of UCLA's 129 undergraduate majors as well as the students in the Graduate Division of Letters and Sciences. The UCLA College Honors Program is also housed in the College. The College of Letters and Science's programs are divided into five academic divisions: humanities, social sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, and the International Institute. UCLA also offers certificate programs, undergraduate degree-credit and continuing education credits for non-full-time students through its UCLA Extension education program.

The 2010 edition of U.S. News & World Report ranked UCLA as the 24th best university in the nation and 32nd best in the world.
