Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry educates students majoring in Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biology, Environmental Science, and Biopsychology and supports the Mills College Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program.

The Department of Chemistry at Mills College invites applications for an Assistant Adjunct Professor in Chemistry specializing in Organic chemistry. Mills College offers an inclusive, engaged learning environment with small classes where women are encouraged to break barriers to STEM fields. The successful candidate will have substantial teaching experience, and a proven track record of mentoring and working with undergraduate students in Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The Assistant Adjunct Professor will be responsible for teaching one to two courses in the Spring 2022 semester. Teaching may include: organic chemistry I & II lectures and labs for both undergraduates and post-bac pre med students as well as an advanced organic chemistry course for undergraduates. Teaching may be a combination of in-person and synchronous remote modalities depending on state and county guidelines, and departmental needs. This is a one semester renewable contract position to begin in January of 2022.

Compensation:
For faculty new to Mills, compensation is $6,500 per course with a terminal degree and $6,000 per course without a terminal degree. Adjunct compensation is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College.


Requirements:

Candidates should have:
Preferably a Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a closely related field, though candidates with Master degrees will be considered. Experience teaching organic chemistry at the undergraduate level. Excellent written and oral communication skills. The ability to work with a diverse and dynamic student population.


Additional Information:

This is an exempt position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual. Employees also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts.
