Position Description:
Under the direction of the Technology Supervisor, the Technology Assistant is responsible for supporting the overall learning and research environment of the Department by assisting with the technology set up in the classrooms and providing IT support to the faculty and students. The incumbent supports the Technology Supervisor in management and maintenance of DMA IT inventory, websites, servers, and physical infrastructure; advises the faculty, staff, and students on emerging technologies; provides guidance and technical support to students on software-related projects, computer-based courses such as Network Media and Interactivity, and for their exhibitions; and assists with hiring and overseeing student workers for the Help Desk. DMA learning and research facilities include four classrooms, studios for approximately 22 graduate students, four instructional/research laboratories, and the EDA (Experimental Digital Arts) space. The department's IT infrastructure includes approximately 125 workstations, laptops, and small form factor PCs; 13 physical servers; and 9-12 virtual servers.

Significant interaction with students, faculty, and staff requires strong teaching and social skills, and the ability to identify and understand an individual's arts-related need in order to provide pertinent advice about appropriate and suitable technologies and usage. Incumbent must possess an ability and desire to remain current and knowledgeable about equipment, software, and new innovative technologies and techniques relevant to design and media arts production.

Incumbent also supports as necessary DMA research centers including the UCLA Game Lab, Conditional Studio, Counterforce Lab, and Art | Sci Center.
