Nature of Work:

The Department of Pathology is seeking a full time faculty member at the Assistant to Associate Professor level who is MD, DO or PhD and is board certified or eligible in clinical cytogenetics or laboratory genetics and genomics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) to work on site at the AMC campus in the CGL Laboratory.   

The faculty will provide scientific and clinical expertise for the Colorado Genetics Laboratory. Candidates with strong clinical and scientific backgrounds, experience in laboratory leadership and management, extensive expertise in clinical cytogenomics are preferred. Individuals with experience in an academic laboratory, some evidence of research productivity and interest, and those with strong communication and interpersonal skills will be favored. Individuals just completing their fellowship who are board eligible will be considered, but the position will require passing board certification within three years. This position provides opportunities for clinical and translational research, test development, and educational activities.

Principal activities will include test results review and sign-out of clinical cases across a spectrum of cytogenetic applications. Board certification or board eligibility in Clinical Cytogenetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics by the American Board of Genetics and Genomics is required. 

Employment Expectations:

This position requires service in clinical, education, research/scholarship, and academic administrative activities.

Clinical and administrative activities

  • Independent case review and interpretation of conventional karyotypes, chromosomal arrays, constitutional and oncological FISH assays, and other cytogenomic testing.
  • Consultation with provider clients.
  • Participation in quality assurance/quality management/quality improvement programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements, including maintenance of accreditation by the College of American Pathologists.
  • Participation in employee and technologist education.
Education activities

  • Participation in training of resident and fellowship trainees.
  • Didactic instruction and oversight of undergraduate and graduate trainees in medicine and healthcare related fields.
Research and scholarly activities

  • Applied research and development projects directed towards unique or improved laboratory tests and services, especially using FISH and new cytogenomic techniques.
  • Engagement in translational or clinical research, with academic scholarly productivity commensurate with academic track and rank.
Academic administrative activities

  • Participation in departmental, school, and professional committees
  • Participation in CU SOM interdisciplinary and disciplinary clinical conferences.
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at:

Assistant Professor: 

PhD Assistant Professor- $130,000 to $160,000

MD or MD/PhD Assistant Professor- $160,000 to $210,000

Associate Professor:

PhD Associate Professor- $160,000 to $210,000

MD or MD/PhD Associate Professor- $210.000 to $240,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Assistant Professor:

MD/DO and/or Ph.D. with ABMGG board certification in clinical cytogenetics or laboratory genetics and genomics.

 

Associate Professor:

MD/DO and/or Ph.D. with ABMGG board ctification in clinical cytogenetics or laboratory genetics and genomics and 5 years of faculty experience in clinical cytogenetics and demonstrated academic productivity commensurate with rank.

Desired Qualifications: 

Two or more years’ experience in clinical cytogenetics and demonstrated academic productivity.
