The School of Dental Medicine has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified), Dental Assistant I position.

Job Responsibilities:

Chair Side Assistance – 95% (Essential Function)

    Patient preparation and positioning; Clinical area preparation for the treatment of patients; Use of sterile techniques and infection control procedures; Performs appropriate aseptic and sterilization techniques. Prepares specialized instruments setups for undergraduate students, residents and faculty to be used during dental patient treatment.Inspects appropriate instruments/tools for good condition/working order. Performs dental intraoral and extraoral radiographs using appropriate technique, x-ray equipment and safety equipment. Develops, mounts and identifies radiographic films.
Clinical Education Support5% (Essential Function)

    Support the educational mission of the SDM, including role modeling and assisting with coaching students how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinical operations support. 
Other Duties(Non-essential Function)

On occasion, this position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold the organizational values of CU Denver/Anschutz and the SDM.



Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    One (1) year of dental assisting experienceSuccessful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. 
Current valid CPR and/or BLS certificationMust demonstrate knowledge of dental materials, their use, maintenance and storageNOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Recent experience working in a fast paced dental environment  Experience with clinical area preparation in a dental clinic and/or office.  Experience taking x-raysExperience performing and developing digital dental radiographs.Experience in sterilizing dental tools, instruments and equipment.Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education and/or academic medical environmentExperience working with multiple doctors
Competencies:

    Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of individuals Ability to prioritize and multi-task Excellent time management skills Excellent customer service skills Strong oral communication skills Knowledge of dental terminology and instrumentation  Knowledge of current dental materials, tools and instruments, and proper use and technique  Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines
Decision Scope: 

    Determining what instruments will be needed in the clinics.  Makes recommendations on instrument/equipment repair or replacement.Under supervision, judgment is used by studying the patient information to identify what means of dental assistance the resident/faculty member will need when providing the patient treatment. Under supervision, decides which type of materials to use for dental procedures.  Must stay up to date on any new materials or instruments available and/or new requests or needs of the faculty
Communications:

Interaction with students, faculty or staff on a daily basis to meet the demands of clinical and educational operations. Strong communication skills and problem solving skills for dealing with a variety of personalities and various levels of stress at times.

Working Schedules:

    Position may be assigned weekend and/or evening shiftsPosition may be assigned a 4/10 work week schedule
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as starting at $20.00 per hour.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
