Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine - Institute of Human Virology (IHV) is currently recruiting for a Senior Counselor.  The Senior Counselor will be based at the THRIVE Clinical Program at UMMS Midtown Campus and coordinate with other IHV practices. The Senior Counselor will provide clinical social work services to patients and direct clinical supervision to social work staff. This indiviudal will provide behavioral health interventions and assist patients with all psychosocial needs relating to their HIV care. They will also mentor other social workers along their career development and develop new program inititatives. ***This position is eligible for a $4,000 sign-on bonus.  *Half will be paid within the first 30 days of employment, and half will be paid upon successful completion of probation.  Current UMB employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.***

Primary Duties:
  • Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify psychosocial condition and needs, and determine best course of therapeutic treatment.
  • Evaluate, refer, and counsel individuals, couples, or groups to assess needs and address issues. Provides preventive, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups who are in or threatened by situations detrimental to their well-being.
  • Document client(s) progress. Perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures.
  • Development of treatment plans and healthcare evaluations for a variety client issues.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues who are not fully licensed as mental health providers
  • May supervise other social workers,  counselors, interns, students, or employees per licensure.
  • Assist in development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.
  • May be responsible for review and submission of authorized documentation for reimbursement per licensure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Essential Functions:
  • Provide clinical social work interventions on a team with an Infectious Disease Specialist, Registered Nurse and Medical Assistant.
  • Provide supportive counseling, address suicide risk and develop therapeutic behavioral health interventions as part of the Collaborative Care psychiatric model
  • Provide clinical case management to patients needing intensive support services including the development of assessments and care plans to help achieve social-emotional-behavioral success.
  • Provide grant funded services to patients who have challenges in meeting basic needs such as food insecurity, lack of transportation, and pending evictions.


Qualifications
Education: Master of Social Work (MSW).
Type of Experience: One (1) year of post-advanced licensure (LCSW-C) experience in related area. Prior HIV experience preferred.
 License: LCSW-C Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Accountability, Civility, Collaboration, Diversity, Excellence, Leadership, and Knowledge.
Additionally, a general knowledge about Healthcare, HIV, Trauma, Harm Reduction, Insurance and Behavioral Health. Clinical social work knowledge and experience that wil  support multidisciplinary teams. Proficient in EPIC, Office, psychopathology, medical terminology.
