Job Description:


The Senior Academic Counselor is responsible for providing leadership in support of academic advising services at Roxbury Community College. She/he will provide guidance to Academic Counselors and determine best practices to improve academic advising processes at the college. The Sr. Academic Counselor works with current and prospective students on academic options and services available to assist them in deciding on and pursuing their educational goals. Special emphasis on students who speak languages other than English.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • In collaboration with the Director, coordinates and manages all areas of Academic Advising.
  • Provide full service advising and support on academic and workforce career pathway programs.
  • Facilitate student access to all supportive services available to RCC students.
  • Verifies student eligibility for specific classes or online registration and eligibility for placement and develops student education plans.
  • Refers students to appropriate college resources for career planning and holistic support.
  • Responds to student questions on student services, matriculation procedures, and various college admission requirements and deadlines, including admission and registration procedures, financial aid processes, transfer options and articulation agreements.
  • Conduct outreach and Information Sessions for students speaking languages other than English.
  • Works with administrators and counselors to schedule college application and assessment workshops.
  • Performs a variety of administrative support services; retrieves and maintains data; compiles and prepares statistical reports.
  • Day, evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.


Requirements:


  • Master's degree from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education.
  • Two- Five (2-5) years' experience as a Student Counselor at a community college or University setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the student services team.
  • Excellent technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, SMS, LMS and early alert system.

Preferred:


  • Knowledge of policies and procedures applicable to matriculation and eligibility, admissions requirements and processes, residency requirements, and academic counseling.
  • Language skills (Spanish, Haitian Kreyol, Cape Verdean Kriolu, French, Mandarin, Arabic) highly preferred.

Compensation: Roxbury Community College offers competitive salaries and full benefits according to the guidelines and procedures of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
