The Advancement team at Macalester College seeks to hire a System’s Analyst as an integral member of its technical team which designs, develops and maintains Advancement data systems to address the information access needs that enhance and expand Advancement initiatives.  


This Systems Analyst will serve as a customer relationship management (CRM) support specialist who will work with the core Advancement Information Services team.  Provides technical responsibilities with the Slate (CRM) database, query writing, report building, and assistance with day-to-day operations and configuration of Slate.  Works with advancement staff to troubleshoot issues, helps code/develop new projects when appropriate, maintains existing Slate projects and may help audit and manage Slate security, and conducts periodic process audits to recommend updates and inactivation of outdated processes. Works closely with the Development Strategy (donor relations and research) and Macalester Fund (annual giving) teams.

The areas of Advancement—Engagement, Communications and Marketing, Development, and Advancement Information Services—are dedicated to supporting Macalester’s mission and moving it forward. We work to strengthen the Macalester experience, from engaging alumni, parents, and friends of the college,  maintaining clear communication campus-wide, to fundraising for building projects and scholarships to ensure that deserving students can access a Mac education.

  • Develops queries and reports from Macalester's customer relationship management (CRM) database (Slate) utilizing a solid understanding of SQL, relational data architecture and ability to surface key business needs and insights for end users.  The primary development will be in Slate and built in query and reporting tools.  Works with extract, load transform (ETL) processes to keep the primary database of records up to date and collaborates as needed with external data systems and tools.
  • Provides data analysis support to data entry and gift staff for day-to-day functions to assure clean and integrated gift data via conducting routine integrity and clean up scripts and periodic troubleshooting.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Advancement Information Systems on the development 
  • and implementation of an Advancement data plan that ensures the department’s information management needs are met, engaging in all phases of advancement IT projects and programming assignments.

  • Engages in and promotes Macalester’s culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status or orientation.
  • 3-5 years of experience with data systems and analysis tools. Experience with
  • Data Architecture methodologies to maintain and build data workflow and integrations 
  • with existing data structures. SQL data structures.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, and related tools and technology.(MS SQL Server a plus.)
  • Ability to gather, analyze, interpret, and translate data into meaningful insights.
    • Delivering data, information, and insights in a secure manner.
    • Ability to analyze and document complex business processes
  • Ability to set priorities and manage a variety of projects from needs assessment to completion.
  • Willingness to develop skills and learn other technologies supporting effective access to advancement data is critical.
  • Experience working within the field of fund-raising is a plus.
  • Experience with Slate CRM is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits: 

This is a full-time, exempt position with a total compensation package that includes Macalester’s full benefits package and an annual salary of $60,000-$70,000.
