Position Summary:

UNC Asheville Athletics and University Enterprises seek to hire a Facilities Manager. The incumbent in this position will direct facilities operations, maintenance, planning, logistical support and contract management for all of the campus’ intercollegiate athletics facilities, including the Sherrill Center, Student Recreation Center and Justice Center. Duties include but are not limited to overseeing the day-to-day efforts of an in-house workforce who perform maintenance, repairs, operation and housekeeping tasks in these facilities; monitoring efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided; validating budget expenditures; responding to administration to identify service problems and establish priorities, and ensuring required facility support and coordination/direction of set-up is provided during all events.

This position is responsible for inspecting, evaluating, and taking corrective action to ensure buildings and equipment are adequate and in proper working order for users and that, facilities are clean and safe for occupants and the general public.

This position will be directly involved with sports facility planning, facility redesign and construction; and the supervision of all sports facilities, including the structures and grounds, as well as the custodial crews.

This position will be expected to acquire full knowledge of UNC Asheville’s athletic venues. This includes knowledge of keys for athletic doors, EMS Card system, risk management procedures, identifying maintenance needs, facility floor plans, building codes, etc.

Coordination and management of short and long term facility renovation projects/Serve as a liaison for outside vendors.

This position will be expected to maintain all game equipment (i.e. Scoreboards, Sound Systems, Lighting Fixtures, Sport Specific Equipment (Basketball Goals, Volleyball Nets, Soccer Goals, Play Clocks, etc.)) and anything else required for game day execution.

Interface with internal and external users of the facilities partnering with the Director of Event Management to ensure customer satisfaction. This position is responsible for sourcing and directing student and other temporary labor, event management, video and other services for events in line with user agreement costs in facilities.

This position is responsible for management and tracking of utility usage; including implementation of cost saving initiatives.

Develops effective working relationships with internal/external customers (vendors, subcontractors, etc.) that further the work unit’s goals.

Identifies facilities-related maintenance problems that require in-depth analysis, and identifies options for solving those problems.

This position will be a senior team member of University Enterprises.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills:

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

A Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field would be desirable; however, a sufficient number of years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree. Five to Ten years of management experience, depending on education, with experience in large facility infrastructure management and mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems skills. Knowledge in sports center/program requirements desired. Candidates must possess broad knowledge of facilities maintenance. Preferred skills include leadership/supervision, oral and written communication, problem solving, independent decision-making and interpersonal skills. The ability to anticipate obstacles/roadblocks and prepare alternative plans to ensure timely task accomplishment. Effective time management skills, will not let distractions interfere with completion of the job/project. Review and advise on existing workflows and operational systems. Handle other increasingly challenging projects as appropriate. The ability to use a computer for business activities and to utilize an automated work event system is required. Thorough knowledge of stage equipment, lighting, sound, electrical systems, Daktronics scoreboards, safety hazards and precautions is a plus. Must be available evenings and weekends to support both Athletic and University Enterprise events.

Work Schedule and Hours:

Typical office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, due to the nature of the various events, meetings and schedule of the facilities this position will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed. The person in this position must be willing to have a flexible schedule and will be required to work additional hours as needed.
