Visiting Assistant Professor of Geology and Environmental Sciences (3-Year Term)

The Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time, 3-year term, Visiting Assistant Professor position starting in August 2022, pending final administrative approval. We seek candidates with broad training in Solid Earth geosciences. Specific teaching assignments include introductory courses in Physical Geology and Planetology, as well as advanced courses in Structural geology, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, and Mineralogy (advanced courses arranged in alternating years). Preference will be given to those with undergraduate teaching experience and those who can also contribute to the Environmental Sciences curricula and/or career-focused courses such as Forensic Geology, as well as a scientific writing course.  Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Geology, Geological/Earth Sciences or closely related discipline (ABD considered; completion required by date of appointment).

Teaching load will average 20 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, and all faculty members teach during the College’s distinctive four-week January Term. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, active engagement in scholarly and/or creative activities, and working closely with students in a small college environment. Committee service and academic advising also are requirements for tenure and promotion.
