Description:

The Sprott Department of Surgery at University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital) and the University of Toronto Department of Surgery are seeking applicants for the position of an academic thoracic surgeon. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for July 1, 2022.

University Health Network is a large quaternary care hospital, with state of the art facilities and advanced capabilities in the full spectrum of Thoracic Surgery. The Toronto Lung Transplant Program remains a world leader in this dynamic area of Thoracic Surgery.

The successful candidate will be a Thoracic Surgeon with substantial experience in thoracic surgical oncology with focus on esophageal cancer. Experience in lung transplantation and extra-corporeal life support would be an asset. The candidate will be expected to function as a Surgeon-Investigator, with 40-50% time protection for research. The candidate is expected to actively be involved in supervising students, residents and other clinical trainees.

The successful candidate will possess the following credentials:

    MD and advanced certification in Thoracic Surgery,Fellowship level experience in lung transplantation and esophageal surgical oncology,Previous full time research training, ideally with completion of an advanced graduate degree, A demonstrable vision in their field of research and commitment to establishment of an independent research-focused academic career, preferably in the area of health services research in thoracic surgery.A demonstrable clinical interest in thoracic surgical oncology, specifically esophageal surgical oncology, as well as lung transplantation and extracorporeal life support. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and for certification with The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
