Job Description

We are hiring for multiple non-tenure track, Assistant Clinical Professor, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, academic year positions based at our Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma campuses in the Department of Educational Psychology. Each position is renewable, based upon effective performance, availability of funds, and program needs, with the possibility of a multiple-year appointment.

The appointments will begin Fall 2022 academic semester. The Department of Educational Psychology is located within the College of Education and offers a PhD in Combined Counseling/School Psychology, EdS in School Psychology, Master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling-School Counseling, Counseling-Student Affairs, and Human Relations. The Department of Educational Psychology has statewide locations that also many of our accredited programs.

The Department of Educational Psychology (EPS) is seeking to fill multiple Assistant Clinical Professor, Clinical Mental Health Counseling – School Counseling positions beginning in August 2022. The positions are 9-month non-tenure track faculty lines with the opportunity for summer course teaching; and are located at the Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, or Yuma campuses. The successful candidates will have specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and/or School Counseling, and will have enthusiasm for teaching at the graduate level, and for training culturally responsive and ethical counselors to serve the needs of communities in Arizona and beyond.

Responsibilities:

1. Teach graduate counseling classes (including practicum and internship) for the EPS programs, focusing on the CACREP accredited MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling and MEd Counseling – School Counseling programs
2. Teach in-person, blended, and online courses
3. Assist in recruiting and advising counseling students
4. Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, and the profession
5. Work collaboratively with schools and agencies to coordinate practicum and internship experiences for counseling students

Minimum Qualifications

1. Earned Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from an accredited CACREP program by date of hire – OR – meet CACREP criteria for Core Faculty; ABD candidates who will complete their dissertations during the 2022-23 academic year will be considered at an instructor rank until completion of degree.
2. College teaching experience (can include college teaching as a graduate assistant).
3. Minimum of one year applied experience in the field of Counseling, with background/experience in mental health agencies or schools.
4. Licensed/certified or eligible for licensure/certification as a Professional Counselor or School Counselor in Arizona and/or willing to seek licensure/certification as a Professional Counselor or School Counselor in Arizona.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Demonstrated success in teaching graduate level courses in the area of counseling and/or counselor education
2. Experience, knowledge, and skills in theories and techniques of counseling
3. Experience in supervising practicum and internships, and teaching multicultural counseling, counseling theories, and counseling processes
4. Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students
5. Ability/experience working with graduate students on research projects
6. Demonstrated efficacy in working with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds (e.g., culture, gender/sexuality, language, disability, class); and understanding of the diversity of rural and southwest communities
7. Active involvement or leadership roles in counseling related professional associations
8. Experience in networking/collaborating with schools and/or agencies

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment.
