The Research Assistant will be learning firsthand the science of histology and neuropathology at the BU CTE center. They will assist with postmortem tissue processing and harvesting and assist in coordinating the data generated by the project. The incumbent will help coordinate clinicopathological case conferences with the Project Manager from the Clinical Core. Assistance will be requested to help prepare all the neuropathology data documentation to accompany neuropathology data submitted to the Data Core.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintains and updates extensive databases, verifies for accuracy and validity of data entered.
  • Perform qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and data entry.
  • Coordinate clinicopathological cases to be presented at weekly science meetings and monthly consensus meetings.
  • Assist senior researchers with postmortem tissue processing and harvesting.
  • Prepare the neuropathy data documentation to be disbursed to all Data Cores, other collaborators and grant sub-recipients.
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of related project reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Conduct internet based and library research.
  • Assist and provide backup for laboratory supply inventory and ordering.
  • Schedule and follow up on preventative maintenance cycles on equipment.
Required Skills

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree with some experience in neuroscience or a related field (preferable 1-3 years). Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met, maintain a clean and well-organized work area, and proficient computer and writing skills. This position will be located at the Bedford VA Healthcare System. There will occasion to travel to Boston University School of Medicine and VA Healthcare system of Jamaica Plain, applicant should have some type of transportation or access to transportation.
