The Office of Internationalization (INTZ) provides leadership and support for the University of Denver's efforts to internationalize the campus. Position Summary

The Director of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) reports to the Vice Provost for Internationalization (VPI) who oversees ISSS, the Office of International Education (OIE), INTZ Academics, Operations and Strategic Partnerships. The ISSS Director currently supervises five professional staff. The Director provides strategic vision and leadership in managing ISSS. The primary responsibilities of the director along with providing overall vision, planning and leadership for the unit are: (a) oversight to ensure immigration compliance with SEVP and DU (b) staff hiring, training, and coaching, (c) oversee operations and workflow management, (d) liaising with stakeholders and (e) oversee programmatic support for international students and scholars (f) oversee ad hoc and/or programmed trainings for university staff and/or faculty around support and best practices for international community members. This position serves a population of approximately 800 students and scholars.

Essential Functions

Office Operations

  • Administrative experience including budget planning and analysis, strategic planning, and workflow knowledge/ operation design.
  • Ability to analyze and design staffing and operational needs to maximize resources as changes occur in the field and university.
  • Supervision and professional development of professional staff.
  • Knowledge and use of data collection to manage operations and budget.

Student and Scholar Support

  • Oversee the development of orientations with ISSS team & supervise staff engaged in ongoing programs addressing cultural adjustment, student success, campus climate initiatives, engagement, and employment.
  • Experience supporting students academic, personal, and professional success through proven collaboration with campus units.
  • Experience operating effectively in cross-cultural contexts demonstrating intercultural understanding.
  • Analysis of existing programs and ability to re-design workflow on a regular basis.
  • Experience responding comprehensively to students and scholars in crisis.

Liaising with Stakeholders

  • Experience working with university, community, and government stakeholders to address and promote international student and scholar issues.
  • Represent and promote international student and scholar interests to the DU community and professional field of international education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise with federal immigration regulations pertaining to F & J student categories and the ability to handle complex cases.
  • Ability to create institutional policy based on a sophisticated understanding of U.S. immigration regulations.
  • Ability to explain complex immigration regulations to people of varying English language ability.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a higher education setting as a DSO/ARO and/or PDSO/RO.
  • General oversight of operations management experience.
  • Experience developing and/or supporting innovative programs or programming.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • SEVP compliance requirement.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent residence to meet federal eligibility requirements to be a PDSO/DSO and RO/ARO.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of immigration trends, regulations, and practices.
  • Knowledge of scholar advising, immigration processes and orientations, i.e. experience with J scholar programming, H-1Bs and permanent residence.
  • Experience in an International Student and Scholar Services office serving 800+ international students and 100-300+ scholars.
  • Experience in strategic planning, staff recruitment and budget management.
  • Demonstrated work toward advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong computer literacy including experience with TDS/New Student Experience, MS Office Suite, SEVIS and Banner and other university platforms.
  • Second language and culture experience.
  • International living experience.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. While this position will predominantly be required to work in the office there is flexibility for some remote work during the week.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
