- Responsible for the overall financial, educational, and programmatic management of the Physician-Scientist and Translational Sciences Program in the School of Medicine.Provide oversight of grant programs and track success of grantees, including the Translational Research Scholars program and the CU ASPIRE Program.Provide oversight and integration of NIH R38 research training programs for residentsIntegrate research training programs during medical school, residency, and fellowshipEstablish mentorship program with scholarship oversight committee.Build and sustain community among physician-scientists through networking, social events, and scientific conferences.Oversee and administer annual physician-scientist symposium.Manage all personnel actions with respect to program employees, including the performance evaluation process, review and approval of leave usage and the administration of FMLA, ADA and worker’s compensation matters.Collaborate with SOM communications team for program marketing, including brochures, posters, coordination of website development and implementationDevelop working relationships across School of Medicine and the larger CU Anschutz community to increase visibility of the Physician-Scientist and Translational Sciences Program.
- Establish two-year program for post-baccalaureates contemplating a career in medicine or science to gain research experience.Expand competitive year-out research program options for medical students and housestaff.Build on existing summer research programs for undergraduates to explore research opportunities.Develop educational program focusing on the scientific and operational aspects of programmatic research including town halls and small group discussions.Create and implement five-year evaluation plan for Physician-Scientist and Translational Sciences Program.
- Establish Translational Research Scholars Program.Establish CU ASPIRE (CU Anschutz SOM Programmatic Incubator for Research) Program.Create and oversee peer review committees to determine awardees.Provide pre- and post-award support for programmatic research within the program.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in science, public administration, business administration, or related field. A doctoral degree is preferred.Five years of responsible financial, administrative, and supervisory experience in a university or healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in a field of scienceDemonstrated expertise in program developmentThorough understanding of academic medicine and the role of the physician-scientist
- Prior management experience Experience in grant management in an academic research environment
- Experience in budgets preparation and oversight
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.Outstanding customer service skills.Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple deadlines.
- Ability to plan, implement, and coordinate financial and administrative activities.
