The Department of Medicine has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Human Resources Principal Professional position.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.

Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

This position will serve as back-up to the Department of Medicine HR Manager by helping process HR actions and requests, and providing support at the Division level as needed. The Principal Professional will be a subject matter expert in HR policy and process at the University, School, and Department level and is expected to work independently on all assigned tasks. This position is expected to work 4 days/week in-office.

Examples of Work Performed:

    Manage DOM Admin Office recruitments – serve as subject matter expert in activities like drafting job descriptions, posting positions, sitting on search committees as requested, providing guidance on interview processes, dispositioning candidates and closing requisitions, and drafting letters of offerTrack recruitment data to better identify underrepresented populations and help improve future recruitment practices Process staff and faculty actions in smartsheet and HCM – hires, terminations, FTE changes, pay rate changes, recurring or one-time payments, etc.Organize DOM HR meetings and trainingsManage Volunteer Clinical Faculty process and database – this will include a renewal process to track VCF relationships and activities with Divisions and SOM.Assist with payroll tasks –update funding distributions, additional pay transactions, overpayments, off-cycle paymentsProcess leave entries for DOM Admin OfficeProvide support throughout the academic promotion process – schedule committee meetings, review dossiers for completeness, create summary letter templates, upload final committee letters to Interfolio and forward cases to Office of Faculty AffairsManage Post Tenure Review process, faculty performance evaluations, and Performance Improvement Agreement processManage FML requests for the DOM Admin OfficeServe as the in-office webspace coordinatorManage division level HR tasks during HRBP vacancies

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $61,765 to $73,000.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    A bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
       Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
    4 years of relevant experience, preferably in a healthcare or higher education setting
      The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for helping to build and maintain HR best practices for the entire Department of Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Prior experience working with faculty and knowledge of faculty appointment structure, preferably with University of Colorado5 years of relevant experience in a healthcare or higher education setting2 years experience working in an HR/Faculty Affairs roleExperience working in PeopleSoft HCM
Competencies:

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices.
