Job Summary

The CAC Ceramic Studio is looking for a knowledgeable ceramics studio technician to keep up operations of the studio including equipment, materials, chemicals, and kiln firings with clean and safe practices. As part of the Art Department, the studio technician works with studio members, students and instructors and reports to the ceramic’s professor. Part-time position work up to 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities

ESSSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Electric Kiln firing
  • Downdraft gas kiln firing
  • Kiln loading
  • Glaze calculation, testing, and mixing
  • Clay recycling and mixing
  • Materials management
  • Maintains and repairs electric kilns
  • Maintaining and Cleaning kiln shelves
  • Cleaning the studio (clay traps, kiln yard, materials shed etc.)
Qualifications

Experience: One year of applicable experience

Salary: $16.58 per hour - up to 19 hours per week

  • Studio Technician Performance will be based on:
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness, organization of studio tools and inventory of materials.
  • Ability to maintain policies in studio.
  • Ensure that firings are completed at least every 2 weeks (exceptions during Arts Fest).
  • Care of handling and tracking of ceramic class work.
  • Timely upkeep of glaze mixing and recycling of clay.

  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
  • Ability to maintain a clean studio – must be willing and able to clean on a regular basis.
  • Standing/ walking for long periods of time.
  • Ability to carry & move heavy objects 50lbs.
  • Exposure to chemicals: gas and other materials that are used in ceramics process and
  • others related to 3D media.
  • Use of power tools such as drill and angle grinder, bench grinder, etc.
  • Wearing particulate respirator on face and safety glasses required for glaze and clay
  • recycling
