Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Public Health of the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University (ECU) invites applicants for an Assistant Professor, twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position in Epidemiology. Located in Greenville, North Carolina, ECU, a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University, is the third largest of the 17-campus University of North Carolina system.

The Department of Public Health offers a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree program accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), with over 110 MPH students enrolled. The Department offers a DrPH degree with concentrations in Environmental and Occupational Health and Health Policy, Administration and Leadership. The Department of Public Health is committed to educating professionals and conducting research to improve the health of rural communities in North Carolina and beyond.

Home to 11 faculty members, the Department of Public Health has three concentrations: Epidemiology, Community Health and Health Behavior, and Health Policy, Administration and Leadership. Our MPH program prepares professionals to identify and address complex public health challenges using innovative and collaborative approaches that integrate research and service primarily in rural settings. The Department promotes a diverse and inclusive climate and seeks to enhance interdisciplinary teaching and research.

Job Duties :

The successful candidate will develop and deliver instructional materials for teaching basic and intermediate epidemiology in-person and online in the MPH program.

The qualified candidate will be expected to mentor a variety of student learners, conduct investigator-initiated research, and provide university, professional, and community service, consistent with a 12-month, tenure-track faculty members at ECU.

Minimum Education/Experience :

Candidate must have earned a doctorate (PhD, DrPH, ScD, etc.) in Epidemiology or related field, such as Population Health Sciences, preferably from an accredited school of public health.

Demonstration of excellence in and commitment to teaching observational and experimental epidemiology, including quantitative data analysis to a variety of adult learners.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate in epidemiology or related field and a master’s degree in biostatistics.

Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate teaching excellence in distance education to adult learners.

Preference will be given to candidates with a research and teaching focus in the epidemiology of chronic diseases, including cardiometabolic outcomes, oncology, or neurologic conditions.

Experience with data analysis using SAS, R, Stata, and/or other software applications is preferred.

Demonstration of a strong quantitative background in design and analysis of observational and intervention studies (clinical or community-based trials), a consistent record of peer-reviewed publications, and a research agenda (established or aspirational) are preferred.
