Summary of Duties:

The Web and Digital Publishing Coordinator will use their skills to create compelling and effective web and digital experiences for the College of Medicine. Under the direction of the Digital Publishing Lead, the successful candidate will work with colleagues across the organization and be responsive to the needs of various stakeholder groups to present content that promotes learning and engagement, while maintaining ADA compliance. The ability to follow established style sheets while using best judgement with regard to aesthetics, as well as a basic understanding of consistency, typography, and page layout, will be integral to this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

40% Web Publishing

  • Build, update, maintain, and publish web pages and posts.
  • Add formatting, headlines, hyperlinks, and metadata to provided content using WordPress, Elementor, HTML, and CSS.
  • Work within existing brand guidelines to select, prepare, and upload optimized images, graphics, buttons, and other visual components to website content.
  • Review and check finalized website content and pages for errors in grammar, spelling, design, formatting, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring that content is clear, correct, comprehensive, and effective.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment with university and college brand standards.

30% ePublications and Other Digital Publishing

  • Publish eBooks, Articulate modules, websites, and other digital publishing tools using a range of publishing tools.
  • Collaborate with education technology team on digitally published learning resources and convert existing learning resources to newer and more effective digital platforms.
  • Publishing podcasting and other digital resources.

15% Web Maintenance and Support

  • Find and fix broken links or issues with navigation.
  • Troubleshoot minor site errors and create well-documented support tickets for any bugs requiring developer support.
  • Participate in website quality testing, creating well-documented support tickets for any bugs or design updates required to deliver high-quality website design and builds.

10% Project Management

  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to prioritize tasks and projects to ensure high-quality, on-deadline deliverables to all stakeholders.
  • Stay current with assigned tasks and provide status updates.
  • Participate in stakeholder consultations.
  • Communicate clearly with all stakeholders.

5% Other

  • Other related work as assigned

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in information science or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in web site design, development and maintenance. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, handle multiple projects, pay attention to details, and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build key relationships with clients and others in the college, as well as team colleagues.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing for the web or equivalent (combination of education and experience).
  • Experience with WordPress, Elementor, or similar CMS and page builder.
  • Proficient Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word) and MacOS.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Asana or other project-management tool.
  • Proficiency in HTML 5 and CSS.
  • Understanding of responsive website design.
  • Experience implementing web accessibility standards.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and web management tools.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
