Division of Student Affairs | WSU Health Sciences Spokane

The Division of Student Affairs is recruiting for two Program Coordinator positions in the new Equity, Leadership, and Community (ELC) Student Hub! The ELC Hub currently includes three groups: the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement, the Office of Community Engagement & Service Learning, and the Student Diversity Center.

The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement works to create student involvement and leadership opportunities that bolster a collaborative learning environment and meet the holistic needs of the WSU Spokane campus and community.

The Office of Community Engagement & Service Learning works to builds partnerships between the community and WSU students and faculty to support service-learning, student development as active and educated citizens, and community advancement.

Summary of Duties

Equity Leadership Community (ELC) Student Leadership Coordinator
This position is coordinates the day-to-day of Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) engaged in campus involvement and community engagement activities and events. The coordinator also provides key advisement to Registered, Student, Organizations in the areas of organization advising, leadership, community engagement, diversity, professional development, and event coordination.

The Coordinator provides oversight for the student fitness center, campus pantry, the service and involvement management systems (Presence), and supports campus events, specifically those focused on involvement. This role provides guidance and liaison to student leadership to work collaboratively with Student Affairs staff.

Equity Leadership Community (ELC) Community Programs Coordinator
The Community Program Coordinator serves a vital role in facilitating and coordinating transformational student learning experiences in the local community. This position has primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing community service projects and community-based programs for WSU Health Sciences student engagement in Spokane & Yakima. In partnership with local community organizations, the coordinator will develop and schedule service projects, coordinate student engagement and assess program outcomes.

The position reports to, and partners with, the Director for Student Equity, Leadership, and Community to coordinate the Office of Community Engagement & Service to ensure an inclusive co-curricular learning environment. In addition, the position will work collaboratively with the Student ELC staff, campus community, and local communities for efforts around community engagement, and in helping develop initiatives that address issues related to historically underrepresented, marginalized, and/or underserved students and communities.

Qualifications:

Equity Leadership Community (ELC) Student Leadership Coordinator

Required Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Program Specialty: Two (2) years’ experience coordinating student activities/programs, community engagement programs, new student programs or closely related experience, in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience successfully advocating for holistic wellbeing, diversity and the values of diversity.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, including Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Personnel, related area is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with Washington State University, or in higher education working with policies and procedures.
  • Experience with event planning/programs for student organizations.
  • Experience with university fitness center and/or wellness education.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of different ages, backgrounds and levels of experience, including students and faculty.

Equity Leadership Community (ELC) Community Programs Coordinator

Required Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Program Specialty: Two (2) years’ experience working with students in a higher education setting, such as providing and/or overseeing activities in advising, career counseling, financial aid, outreach, recruitment and/or retention.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, including Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of experience directly related to student services.
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro
  • Previous experience with Washington State University, or in higher education working with policies and procedures.
  • Experience with student activities in higher education.
  • Experience with event planning/programs for student organizations.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
