General Summary of Position:

QUantum Engineering Science and technology (QUEST) group at UMass Lowell invites applications for postdoctoral scholar position in theory and phenomenology of quantum information processing. The initial term of appointment is two years, contingent on satisfactory research progress. Selected candidate is expected to join in spring–early summer 2022, though some flexibility in start date maybe accommodated.

Research themes pursued in the group span quantum information processing, open quantum systems, and nonlinear quantum optics. In addition, we actively collaborate with theorists across a broad spectrum including those in quantum complexity, quantum condensed matter and quantum field theory. We also have close ties with leading experimental groups focusing on superconducting quantum circuits, which form the primary outlook for practical realization of our research.

Ideal candidate will have diverse expertise and experience in physics of quantum information processing, many-body quantum systems and/or non-equilibrium quantum matter. They will be expected to undertake analytical and numerical studies to develop new concepts and tools for the study of engineered quantum systems, with a focus on quantum reservoir engineering, quantum control and feedback, and nonreciprocal quantum dynamics. The candidate is also expected to mentor and work closely with graduate and undergraduate students in the group.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • PhD in in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline before the start date of the position
  • 3-5 years experience (prior postdoc or graduate research) in theoretical quantum physics or quantum optics
  • Experience with circuit-QED and superconducting quantum circuits is desirable (but not necessary)
  • Special Instructions to Applicants:

Only current UML Employees within the Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) bargaining unit will be considered during the first 10 business days of the posting. All other candidates will be considered after that period.

Initial review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For full consideration completed applications, including all letters of recommendations should be received by February 28, 2022.
