The college is seeking a full-time instructor for its program in Environmental Studies. The overarching goal of the Environmental Studies (ESR) program at Portland Community College (PCC) is to prepare environmentally literate students who make informed, evidence-based decisions about the environmental issues affecting their communities. The fields of environmental studies and science are interdisciplinary, integrating the sciences with the study of human society, law and policy in order to address our most pressing environmental issues. The Environmental Studies program prepares students to pursue degrees in both environmental science and environmental studies.

Portland Community College serves nearly 60,000 full and part-time students across a large and diverse service area, with four campuses and multiple education centers. This position is located at PCC’s Cascade Campus in the historic Albina Neighborhood in North Portland. The Cascade Campus is one of PCC’s four comprehensive campuses and is a leader in advancing equity and social justice. The campus serves as a resource to educate and train area residents and contributes to the health, development, and vitality of North and Northeast Portland. Over 20,000 students enroll at Cascade annually in one of 60+ degree or certificate programs.

Demonstrates readiness and enthusiasm to teach Environmental Studies and Resources (ESR) lecture and lab classes, with a focus on the non-majors, general education and sustainability ESR courses including ESR 140, 141, 171, 172, 173 coursesDemonstrates ability and enthusiasm to work collaboratively to coordinate and build community with other full-time and part-time faculty who teach the classes listed in the first success criterion. Starting Salary ExpectationsInitial Salary Placement will be up to Step 3 ($62,665) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.Position Grade Salary Range$58780 to $99564 Annual SalaryFTE1PCC BenefitsPCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
