Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking two (2) full-time instructors of Anatomy and Physiology to join the faculty of the Biology department. The successful candidate will support and encourage student interest and academic excellence in biology and allied health programs, by providing high quality and culturally responsive instruction and helping to develop innovative curriculum and programs. The positions are primarily housed at the Rock Creek or Cascade campus, and there will be opportunities to support the Biology department college-wide.

PCC serves nearly 60,000 full and part-time students across a large and diverse service area, with four campuses and multiple education centers. Again, one of the positions will be based at PCC’s Cascade Campus in the historic Albina Neighborhood in North Portland. The Cascade Campus is one of PCC’s four comprehensive campuses and is a leader in advancing equity and social justice. The campus serves as a resource to educate and train area residents and contributes to the health, development, and vitality of North and Northeast Portland. Over 20,000 students enroll at Cascade annually in one of 60+ degree or certificate programs.

The other position will be based at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus. A critical resource for Washington County, PCC Rock Creek is located 12 miles west of downtown Portland. Its 260-acre campus includes woodlands, wetlands and grassland, a diverse collection of farm animals, 14 career tech programs and a 3.6 acre Learning Garden. Approximately 66 percent of Rock Creek students enroll in the college transfer program and approximately 18 percent of students enroll in career/technical programs. Rock Creek serves approximately 20,000 students a year.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master’s degree in the subject area or Master’s degree in related area plus 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in subject area.

This list may not be inclusive as there are other degree titles that may be appropriate for the subject and related areas. The Division Dean, consultation with the Faculty Department chair will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of this list. The Department Chair can determine the applicability of a particular degree to teaching a specific biology course.

Starting Salary ExpectationsInitial Salary Placement will be up to Step 3 ($62,665) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.Position Grade Salary Range$58780 to $99564 Annual SalaryFTE1PCC BenefitsPCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
