Description
The Criminal Justice program in the School of Public Affairs is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor for a Fall 2022 appointment. The position requires teaching core criminal justice courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, through different modalities, including face-to-face, site-specific, and online. Specialization is open, but are interested in scholars focusing on border issues/organized crime, white collar and corporate crime, law/courts, comparative criminology/criminal justice, and alternatives to traditional justice systems. Our program is especially interested in critical perspectives. A doctoral degree in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or a related field by the date of appointment is required.

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria:
  • are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline,
  • have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline,
  • have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students,
  • have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research,
  • have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group,
  • have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities,
  • have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or
  • have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in criminology or criminal justice, sociology, or a closely related field, by the date of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and be able to work with students of diverse cultural backgrounds. Candidates should possess a strong research agenda and capability as demonstrated by an appropriate history of professional growth activity. This will include publication in refereed journals, professional conference participation, grant activity, as well as other evidence of an active research program. Candidates will be expected to contribute to our program’s ongoing work with community-based and government agencies.
