The College of Education and Social Services (CESS) houses 4 disciplines and 10 programs within those disciplines. Criminal Justice, Education, Social Work, and Human Services are degrees offered in undergraduate, graduate, and two doctoral programs. The College in the University has over 4,000 students with 50 fulltime faculty and staff. Drawing on CESS's renowned faculty and practitioners, the College's program provides opportunities for personal and scholarly growth, job mobility, greater civic participation, and new ways to advance knowledge.

The College of Education and Social Services is seeking candidates for a full-time, 9-month faculty position to teach students in our Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited BSW program in a variety of settings including at the main University campus and in our Center locations at the Tampa Education Center and the East Pasco Education Center. The Candidate will teach a range of BSW classes, face to face and in a blended (synchronous and asynchronous) format, including: individual, group, and macro practice; human behavior in the social environment; diversity and other electives. Other responsibilities include scholarly engagement in the candidate’s specialization area, academic advising, recruitment, and collaborating with the department in the program’s ongoing assessment, curriculum development, student success, and pursuit of excellence in social work education.

The successful candidate will exhibit a commitment to social justice pedagogy and practice, give evidence of scholarly potential, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The candidate must be committed to the educational mission and core values of Saint Leo University, which include a proven commitment to excellence, community, respect, integrity, and responsible stewardship in education through scholarship, practice, and engagement. This position reports to the Undergraduate Chair, the Dean of the College, and ultimately to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. This is a 9-month appointment, tenure track position considered. The position is located on campus but may include teaching online, at the center at Pasco Hernando State College- Spring Hill campus and the Tampa Education Center.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate course load of 4-4 on-ground or online courses per semester
  • Record of advising undergraduate social work majors and assist in recruiting at local agencies
  • Serve on university-wide committees
  • Develop curriculum guides and monitor standard syllabi
  • Participate in CSWE accreditation processes
  • Collaborate with BSW and MSW Depts. on field placements, service learning, and professional development

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of higher education and Social Work education goals and CSWE national standards
  • Willingness to take on diverse roles and multi-task
  • Ability to use technology to enhance learning
  • Knowledge of online teaching platforms and experience in teaching online a plus
  • Content knowledge, values, and skills of Social Work discipline
  • Strong knowledge of community partners to engage in active recruitment of students and field partnerships
  • Ability to travel for student, alumni, and partnership engagements and to campus for periodic meetings

Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Social Work from a regionally accredited university is preferred, but a doctorate in a related discipline with an MSW, from a CSWE accredited School of Social Work, will be acceptable, with at least 3 years of practice experience
  • One-two years, at least, of university teaching experience; undergraduate teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to outstanding teaching on-ground and in blended formats
  • A commitment to scholarly research, publications, or presentations in related discipline.
  • Practice experience in social work discipline
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and community partners.
  • Strong interest in developing and leading innovative higher education programming.
  • Knowledge of the D2L Platform is helpful but training does exist for this online platform
  • Preference given to candidates who demonstrate ability to teach across the social work curriculum

  • Experience teaching on-ground; knowledge of teaching in an online environment is a plus
  • Applied (practitioner) experience.
