Job Description

The person in the Academic Program Coordinator Senior position will primarily be responsible for coordinating the day-to day operations of the Special Education Learning Experiences for Competency in Teaching (SELECT) contract. This is a federally funded program sponsored by the Arizona Department of Education and offered through the Institute for Human Development at Northern Arizona University. SELECT courses are recommended for special and general education teachers, administrators, related service personnel, paraeducators, and other interested individuals desiring to increase knowledge and skills relating to education for children and youth with disabilities.
The person filling the position will also be responsible for assisting with other academic related programs such as the Undergraduate Disability Studies Minor, the Assistive Technology Graduate Certificate Program, the Graduate Disability Resource Certificate Program, and other duties as assigned.

The Institute for Human Development is a federally designated University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities with four primary Core Function areas. The SELECT Program falls under the Core Function of Interdisciplinary Education and Training (IET). This position reports to the IHD Assistant Director for Academic Programs.

Progam Operation & Coordination - 35%

  • Develops program content.
  • Monitors program metrics and performance.
  • Maintains operations of the program.
  • Responsible for event coordination as needed in relation to SELECT activities.
  • May schedule and participate in meetings or committees on behalf of the SELECT program and other assigned IHD activities.

Fiscal Management - 15%

  • Assists with creating program budget and monitors budget for program expenditures.
  • Advises department leadership on discrepancies with expenditures.

Communication/Coordination - 15%

  • Acts as liaison and main point of contact for program participants and other program stakeholders or constituents (internal and external), including telephone and email communications.
  • Answers questions regarding the program.

Compliance - 10%

  • Ensures program compliance with all applicable university, state, federal, or other laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Training - 10%

  • Trains and supervises the SELECT Program Administrative Services Assistant Senior and advises others on program guidelines and details.

Data Collection & Report Writing - 10%

  • Oversees the management and maintenance of records of SELECT program participants and program data, which may include inputting or updating data in a database; researching, summarizing, and analyzing information regarding program participation; and calculating statistics and compiling data to prepare special and/or recurring reports.

Other duties as assigned - 5%


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant field (e.g., Education, Business, Disability-related Studies, Social Work, etc.)
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in teaching, instructional design, project management, or organizational leadership.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g., Education, Business, Disability Related Studies, Social Work, Organizational Leadership, Instructional Design, etc.).
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience in teaching, instructional design, project management, or organizational leadership.
  • Experience in supervising one or more employees.
  • Experience in providing support to an academic unit or department.
  • Certified/credentialed teacher (credential does not need to be active).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to program area.
  • Advanced knowledge of budgeting and account reconciliation principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of organizational practices and principles.
  • Applied knowledge of adult learning principles (androgogy).
  • Knowledge of instructional design methods.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying adult learning principles (andragogy).
  • Knowledge of Coursedog, PeopleSoft, and Qualtrics.
  • Skill in using learning management systems (Blackboard, BbLearn, Canvas, Moodle, etc.)
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Microsoft Teams skills.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Program coordination and execution.
  • Coordination of activities, evaluating data, and establishing priorities.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $47,634. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.


Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
