Job Description:

The College of Education at the University of Florida seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in AI-based Quantitative Research Methods in Education. This tenure-track faculty position aligns with the University of Florida’s AI initiatives (https://ai.ufl.edu), including the purchase of the fastest AI supercomputer in higher education, the inclusion of AI training in all curriculum across campus, and the hiring of faculty with AI expertise around campus. This faculty member will join a productive and collegial community of scholars committed to high quality teaching, research, and service and to developing a culturally diverse faculty and student body. In addition, this faculty member will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers in a variety of units centered around AI and technology-enhanced learning, such as the Institute for Advanced Learning Technologies (https://ialt.education.ufl.edu).

Successful applicants for the tenure-track assistant professor position are expected to develop and maintain a clear, systematic line of research; vigorously pursue external research funding; publish in top-tier scholarly journals; present research findings at meetings of professional associations; and contribute to advising and teaching graduate students. Additionally, candidates will engage in service to the program, school, college, university, and profession in general. The nine-month, tenure-accruing faculty appointment begins August 2022.

Potential areas of expertise and scholarship may include:

  • AI-enhanced precision/personalized learning and technology-enhanced learning
  • AI-enhanced psychometrics, computational psychometrics, digital-first asssment, and related areas
  • AI-enhanced evaluation methods
  • Issues of equity, fairness, and bias reduction in AI-enhanced methodology
  • Systemic approaches to artificial intelligence (AI) in education and analytics: connecting, visualizing data at system, school, class, and student levels with algorithms that account for complexity
  • Advancements to educational research methodology through AI
  • Advanced applications of AI methods in education

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scholarly activities commensurate with expectations of a tenure-track faculty member at a research-intensive university
  • Build a collaborative and diverse community of scholars among colleagues within and outside of the college, especially within UF’s AI research community
  • Vigorously pursue external funding opportunities with the support of the College’s Office of Educational Research
  • Publish in top-tier refereed scholarly journals
  • Advise, engage, and mentor graduate students in teaching, research, and outreach activities
  • Design and teach courses (face-to-face, blended, and/or online) for graduate students and, optionally, undergraduate students
  • Provide service to the university and the profession

Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable, highly competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Doctorate in relevant academic discipline. ABD candidates will be considered if they earn their doctorate prior to August 15, 2022.
  • Record of scholarship as demonstrated through publications and presentations at national conferences (commensurate with experience)
  • Record of relevant teaching experience (commensurate with experience)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in teaching face-to-face classes as well as blended or online classes
  • Evidence of success in proposing, securing, and managing externally-funded projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to matters concerning inclusion, equity, diversity, anti-racism, and/or socially just practices
  • Evidence of commitment to collaboration with faculty and students
  • Commitment to active engagement with and/or leadership in professional organizations of educational research methodology
