Nature of Work

The CDU2 medical director will provide administrative oversight for a team of emergency psychiatrists and advanced practice providers as well as provide direct patient care in the emergency department. The medical director position is responsible for collaborating with other emergency department faculty and staff, supervising other CDU2 psychiatrists and APPs, creating and maintaining the CDU2 faculty schedule, developing protocols, arranging trainings, overseeing residents rotating through the service, building relationships with other departments, and other administrative duties.  The medical director will support the goal of developing 24/7 coverage in CDU2.  The medical director position will include (9) 12-hour clinical shifts per 28-day period (including some nights and weekends), with the remaining FTE dedicated to administrative duties.  The CDU2 medical director will be exempt from the regular Department of Psychiatry call schedule. 

The direct patient care position involves evaluating and treating behavioral emergencies in the emergency department alongside a team of behavioral health evaluators, nurses, emergency medicine physicians, APPs, residents, and medical students. 

Please note, this is an open rank position and could be categorized as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Senior Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

    Participate in attending rotation in ED service with flexible hours (including some weekends and nights)Determining the appropriate treatment of patients, monitoring them as needed, and determining disposition.  This position requires familiarity with the use of chemical restraints, emergency medications, seclusion/restraint procedures, pharmacology for acute agitation, risk assessment, and treatment of substance intoxication and withdrawal.  The CDU2 psychiatrist should be comfortable managing comorbid medical conditions via collaboration with the main emergency department attendings. This position will supervise CDU2 psychiatrists, APPs, psychiatry residents, and medical students.

    Salary Offered or Salary Range

    Instructor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $205,000 to $220,000.

    Senior Instructor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $205,000 to $220,000.

    Assistant Professor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $205,000 to $220,000.

    Associate Professor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $220,000 to $245,000.

    Professor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $250,000 to $300,000.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Minimum Qualifications  

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Instructor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.
