About the College/Unit/Department:

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies is a unit of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. It offers B.A. degrees in Theatre and in Film Studies and additional M.F.A. degrees in Performance, Design, and Dramatic Media as well as a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies. The department encompasses the applied and scholarly study of a wide range of media including stage, film, and 3D computer animation: www.drama.uga.edu.

PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre, Performance Studies, or a related field.

Position Summary:

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies seeks an Associate Professor in Theatre and/or Performance Studies specializing in Human/Digital Performance Ethics. The hire will play an integral role in the PhD program in Theatre and Performance Studies and the MFA in Dramatic Media and is expected to maintain an impactful research profile. The teaching load for this position is four courses per year, including graduate and undergraduate courses in theatre and performance theory and/or history as well as courses and seminars in the candidate’s area of specialization.

This position is part of an interdisciplinary cluster focusing on the Ethics of Data and AI, including faculty in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and information systems. This cluster is part of a multi-year Presidential Hiring Initiative across the university which will hire 50 faculty to develop a new research focus on AI and Data Science. The hire will work closely with established and cluster-hire faculty across the university on projects and grant proposals related to ethical issues raised by AI and data science and explore other possibilities for collaboration across the university around this theme.
