03-Jan-2022 Close All Job SummaryThe Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track appointment as Assistant Teaching Professor (Instructor) in Chinese language to begin August 2022. Instructors hold nine-month appointments and contribute service to the unit and campus, and regularly teach 4 courses (or the equivalent) in both the fall and spring semesters.

Who We AreThe Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations, founded in 1982, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Chinese and Japanese, four minor programs, two certificate programs, as well as language, literature and culture courses in Arabic, Chinese, Hindi/Urdu, Japanese and Korean. Students receive a thorough grounding in the modern language, an introduction to the classical language and literature and a broad familiarity with the literary and cultural history of their selected area. Students interested in Chinese or Japanese are encouraged to broaden their academic horizon through a double major, combining either language with another field of interest. Likewise, students in all Asian Languages and Civilizations programs as well as programs outside the department can pursue one of the department's minors or certificates as a way of broadening their career options. Recent graduates have found positions in such fields as government service, international business and secondary-school teaching; others have gone on to graduate study in Chinese or Japanese.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeJob duties include teaching courses in Chinese language to undergraduate and graduate students and service to the University.   • M.A. in Chinese language, linguistics, pedagogy, or other related discipline.
    • All requirements for conferral of the M.A. degree must be completed prior to August 15, 2022.
  • One year of full-time or part-time experience in teaching Chinese language at the university level.
    • Experience in teaching may have been obtained during graduate studies.
  • Ability to teach all levels of Chinese language.
