Responsibilities
- Advises (prospective and enrolled) students in the DrPH and Interdisciplinary MPH programs about academic requirements and milestones for each of these programs.
- Helps students navigate qualifying examination and advancement to candidacy requirements for the DrPH program and the Capstone requirements for the Interdisciplinary MPH students.
- Academic Advising: Provides advice and assistance to students including tracking students' academic and degree progress and major requirements; assisting students in course selections and resolving schedule conflicts, and similar issues.
- Recruitment and Admissions: Implements outreach programs and initiatives with specifically targeted institutions; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; reviews domestic transcripts for degree eligibility; initiates and arranges student recruitment visits to Berkeley. Advises faculty committee regarding application requirements, timelines, and fellowship criteria; keeps committees on track to meet School and campus deadlines, coordinates organization and review of files, and ensuring confidentiality.
- Financial Aid: Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards; advises students on financial aid options.
- Student Conduct: Provides information to students and faculty regarding campus policies and procedures on student conduct.
- Course Scheduling: Reviews course requirements and student course progression, and advises SPH Curriculum Planner on scheduling needs.
- Student Orientation: Assists with the planning and coordination of onboarding and orientation for new students.
- Events: Coordinates and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events.
- Program Administration: Manages the publication of a bi-weekly newsletter and annual newsletter. Schedules faculty meetings and keeps minutes for the meeting.
- Professional development and ongoing training.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques and models.
- Knowledge of (or can quickly learn) University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases including Cal Central and SOPHAS.
- Ability to multi-task; verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Basic knowledge of student immigration and visa processes pertaining to international students and scholars.
- Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
- Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.
- Knowledge of (or can quickly learn) University processes and procedures.
- Understanding of (or can quickly learn) University rules and regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the UC system and/or equivalent experience
- Experience working in student advising roles
Salary & Benefits
Hourly rate will be commensurate with experience within the range of $26.82- $29.22.
