The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair and Professor.

Within this setting, the core mission of the department of Mathematical Sciences is to engage students with an academically challenging, inclusive, and respectful environment that provides them with the quantitative knowledge, problem-solving collaborations, and support they need to be successful in subsequent mathematical careers and educational programs. This mission is supported by: (1) offering carefully designed and regularly updated relevant curricula, guided by standards held by professional societies in the mathematical sciences, along with a variety of extracurricular activities available to all mathematical sciences majors; (2) offering engaging and academically challenging service courses to non-majors; (3) hiring, supporting, and retaining a diverse group of well-qualified faculty and staff to support the department's mission and strategic goals; (4) encouraging all faculty members to continue to grow in teaching, scholarship, and professional service; and (5) continually cultivating an inclusive, intellectually stimulating atmosphere in the Department that encourages the learning of the mathematical sciences. The Chair will lead the department in furthering its alignment and accomplishments related to these goals.

Position Description. Reporting to the Dean, the Chair typically teaches one course per semester (10%), maintains an active research agenda (10%) and participates in disciplinary and university service (10%) and administers all aspects of the department (70%). The position is fiscal year (12 month) position and is eligible for tenure upon appointment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• Candidates must have an earned doctorate in either mathematics, statistics or a closely related discipline and possess a record of academic accomplishment commensurate with the rank of professor with tenure.
• Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the associate professor level is required for the rank of professor along with a strong record of research and service with substantial publications and presentations in professional venues.
• Demonstrated evidence of a combination of accomplishments or academic leadership experience that will assist the department with development of an interdisciplinary vision and realization of that vision.
• Commitment to and evidence of leadership working cooperatively with faculty, students, university administration and the public.
• Commitment to and evidence of ability to effectively and equitably evaluate and promote advancement of faculty from across an array of mathematical sub disciplines and the three Georgia Southern campuses.
• Record of success in grantsmanship, external funding, or development of program support.
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
• Demonstrated commitment to and experience with inclusive undergraduate and graduate education.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Conditions of Employment:
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
• All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
• Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
• Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
