Children’s Rights

childrensrights.org

A civil rights advocacy organization, Children’s Rights pioneered the field of class action litigation on behalf of children in child welfare systems. Children’s Rights transforms entire child-serving systems of care long beset by racism, insufficient funding, mismanagement, and a lack of transparency. We use our knowledge, expertise, the force of law and strategic advocacy to compel governments to achieve and maintain high standards of care. Our capacity for impact remains unmatched. Currently, Children’s Rights has positively impacted the lives of 1.6 million children in 25 U.S. states.

Children’s Rights seeks a strategic, creative, and entrepreneurial fundraising professional to serve as Chief Development Officer (CDO). The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational management of fundraising initiatives to ensure marked improvement and growth. The CDO will lead and expand Children’s Rights’ current fundraising activities in foundation relations, individual giving, annual membership campaigns, and e-philanthropy while systematically creating new opportunities with individuals, foundations, and corporations.

In partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the CDO will create and lead the execution of short- and long-term strategic and operational fundraising plans in alignment with the strategic plan, in an environment where the prospective donor constituency is not immediately obvious. The candidate will lead and further diversify income sources and build robust major gifts and planned giving programs.

The successful CDO will partner with staff attorneys to elicit, understand, and synthesize Children’s Rights’ impact and articulate this information into passionate and compelling philanthropic cases for support. They will serve as an articulate and persuasive spokesperson and advocate for Children’s Rights’ impact, mission, and vision to prospects and donors.

The CDO will report to the Executive Director and serve on the Executive Leadership Team. They will lead the development team of four, which is comprised of the Director of Individual Giving, Senior Grant Writer, Database Manager, and Development Manager. The successful candidate will serve as the liaison to the Board of Directors regarding development.

Children’s Rights has retained Freeman Philanthropic Services, LLC to facilitate this executive recruitment. Please send confidential inquiries and applications directly to Freeman Philanthropic Services, LLC via e-mail at ChildrensRights@glfreeman.com.
