A tenure-track position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Responsibilities include teaching statistics and data science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, developing an active research program, and engaging in service to the department and the university. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor may be possible, depending on the record and experience of the candidate.
- Doctorate in Statistics or Data Science or related field completed or expected by start date, August 22, 2022.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- For the rank of Associate Professor, in addition to the above, six or more years as an Assistant Professor or above in Statistics or Data Science.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Completed doctorate in Statistics or Data Science at the time of application.
- Evidence of high-quality teaching, and interest or experience in student mentorship.
- Strong potential for a productive research program in statistics or data science; research that has the potential to leverage interdisciplinary collaborations across the university is desirable.
- Strong background in computational analysis.
- Background in applied and theoretical statistics.
- Background or experience in computer science or effective use of databases.
- Record of engagement with or commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in higher education.
- For the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, in addition to the above:
- A sustained record of research and publication in statistics, data science, or the novel application of such methods to research in other disciplines.
- A sustained record of grant submissions or funding.
- A record of successful leadership or development of a data science program at the bachelor’s or graduate level.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 36 permanent faculty including 7 in statistics, and offers Bachelors’ degrees in data science, mathematics, and secondary mathematics education, Masters’ degrees in statistics, mathematics, and mathematics education, and graduate certificates in applied statistics and teaching introductory community college mathematics. This assistant / associate professor would have the opportunity to collaborate with other NAU researchers in areas such as informatics, engineering, natural science, and health science. Furthermore, there would be an opportunity to provide leadership in the data science program.

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. For rank of Assistant Professor $70,000 to $74,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
For rank of Associate Professor $77,000 to $81,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
