The School of Performing Arts at the University of Maine invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music Education with an emphasis in Choral/General Music.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teach choral music education and general music methods courses, and other music education courses as needed at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Secondary duties, dependent on qualifications and departmental needs, may include choral ensemble conducting, supervising student teachers, applied voice lessons, and advising music majors.
- Candidates will be expected to build on existing cooperative relationships with schools and community partners as part of a general recruiting strategy for students and community musicians.
This is a tenure-track, academic-year position anticipated to start August 29, 2022.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Music Education or closely related field is required by the start date of this position; ABD at time of application considered if the degree is completed by Fall 2022. Significant public school teaching experience is required, in addition to excellent interpersonal skills and evidence of strong scholarly potential.
Preferred:
- Successful college level teaching experience preferred.
- Evidence of active commitment to inclusive teaching practices and to the success of students from diverse backgrounds.
