Princeton University
The Creative Writing Program at Princeton University invites applications from established poetry writers whose body of work has earned national and international recognition. Responsibilities include teaching beginning and advanced undergraduate poetry workshops, directing undergraduate senior theses on a weekly tutorial basis, and participating in the life of an active undergraduate creative writing program housed within a thriving center for the creative and performing arts. The Creative Writing Program is part of the Lewis Center for the Arts, designed to put the creative and performing arts at the heart of the Princeton experience. This mission is based on the conviction that exposure to the arts helps each of us to make sense of our lives and the lives of our neighbors. We pursue this mission by bringing together a vibrantly diverse community of people with different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, skills and talents. Applications received by January 1, 2022 will be given fullest consideration, though the search will remain open until the position has been filled. Applicants should provide a detailed letter of application that includes a statement of teaching philosophy, as well as a curriculum vitae. Applicants should also provide contact information for three recommenders as part of the online application process. As part of their submitted application materials, we encourage all applicants to describe their experiences with encouraging diversity and inclusion in their writing, teaching and/or research. Any submitted statement should include their potential for supporting the Lewis Center's commitment to diversity and to furthering equitable practices within the arts as well as their potential to mentor and educate students from backgrounds underrepresented. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. Essential Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have published several highly regarded works, possess a demonstrated dedication to teaching undergraduates, and a willingness to serve as an active member of an undergraduate-centered arts community. We strongly encourage applications from all racial, cultural/national, and economic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications: We are especially interested in writers with an interdisciplinary interest. Applicants with an interest in the practice and teaching of translation would be welcome.
