As of 2020-2021, we currently enroll over 8,000 students in which 64% identify as Latinx, 10% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% as Black/African American, 19% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Reporting to the Dean, Madera Community College at Oakhurst, the Counselor/Coordinator, Dual Enrollment will provide a full range of general counseling responsibilities and dual enrollment coordination duties on the Madera Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations. The counselor/coordinator will be responsible for:

• Providing comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career, personal and transfer counseling;
• Assisting in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as orientation, counseling and follow-up services to students;
• Assisting students with major selection, developing student education plans (SEPs), aligned with their educational goals and career pathways;
• Working collaboratively with instructional faculty, staff, and administrators in the development of student success initiatives and provision of counseling in support of guided pathways and other student support services that will ensure student access to college, student retention and completion rates;
• Providing counseling assistance and referrals regarding college resources and student support services including Admissions & Records, EOPS, CalWORKs, Career/Transfer & Employment Center, DSP&S, Financial Aid, Starfish-Early Alert, Academic Success Centers, STEM, TRiO, and off-campus community-based resources;
• Participating in campus/department/division meetings, conferences, training, and other professional development activities to maintain the expertise required to provide current and reliable information and support students seeking completion of certificate, associate degree, or transfer educational goals;
• Administering dual enrollment program with partner school systems and the various high schools and alternative education centers;
• Planning and identifying the most appropriate dual enrollment courses and coordinate the scheduling and delivery of such courses and related services in alignment with Dual Enrollment Agreements, and in consultation with college faculty, deans, local high school administrators;
• Preparing and sending communications to Dual Enrollment instructors and other stakeholders each semester outlining dual enrollment procedures, calendar of dates and deadlines, and procedures for checking class rosters and for entering grades;
• Collecting and disseminating class rosters for registration of dual enrollment students each semester, and initiate drop/add/withdrawal procedures for students;
• Developing and implementing an orientation program, handbook, and other resources for high school and adjunct faculty teaching Dual Enrollment courses;
• Providing support for enrollment and onboarding activities for identified groups of students and communicating regularly with high schools, students, parents, counselors, and faculty as a primary contact on campus for dual enrollment;
• Reviewing local high school pathways to ensure alignment with MCC's Guided Pathways;
• Collaborating with deans and faculty to build academic pathways;
• Ensuring, maintaining and following guidelines and requirements for high school instructors in compliance with the State Chancellor's dual enrollment program;
• Assisting with the preparation of the annual program review, student learning outcomes, direct reports, and evaluations to improve student learning;
• Assisting as needed with articulation, student outreach, and recruitment activities;
• Assisting and maintaining dual enrollment program website to ensure content is accurate and current for students, parents, and college community to access;
• Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
• Providing services in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus as needed;
• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean, Dual Enrollment; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices; AND

• Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; OR
  
  
• A valid California Community College Credential; OR
  
  
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
• Experience working with a diverse student population;
• Related work and professional experience;
• Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
• Experience with advising students on the requirements for Associate degrees and Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) and general education patterns for both CSUs & UCs;
• Experience participating in outreach, recruitment and matriculation activities;
• Experience with dual enrollment high school partnerships, guidelines and requirements for high school faculty, and knowledgeable of statewide compliance;
• Experience with enrollment procedures and developing onboarding activities with high schools and alternative education partnerships as it relates to dual enrollment efforts;
• Demonstrated understanding of student equity, Guided Pathways, and/or other student success initiatives;
• Experience with counseling and advising, utilizing intervention referral systems, and follow-up;
• Experience addressing educational barriers of low-socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth;
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
177-181 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $60,678 – $93,414 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. Salary and stipends are prorated based on start date. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and the College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

The campus currently serves Oakhurst, Mariposa County, Coarsegold, North Fork and the surrounding communities with over 75 courses in a variety of study areas.
