Stockton University, Division of Student Affairs seeks an Assistant Vice President for Student Health and Wellness to lead its strategies to create a safe and healthy learning environment for students to thrive and succeed.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President for Student Health and Wellness serves as a member of the Vice President’s Executive Leadership Team, chief student wellness advisor and liaison to campus and community partners regarding student well-being.
The Assistant Vice President provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive portfolio of services that support student wellbeing: Alcohol and Drug Education; Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS); Learning Access Program (LAP); Health Outreach, Promotion and Education (HOPE); and Student Health Services (SHS).

- Serve as a member of the Vice President for Student Affairs’ Executive Leadership Team, chief student wellness advisor and liaison to campus and community partners regarding student wellbeing
- Lead and oversee student public health education strategies and crisis responses with university partners
- Synthesize, integrate, align, and lead Student Health and Wellness staff and services areas: Alcohol and Drug Education; Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Learning Access Program (LAP), Health Outreach, Promotion and Education (HOPE) and Student Health Services (SHS)
- Identify and implement strategies to ensure that student health and wellness services and programs meet the needs of diverse student communities (e.g., racially minoritized communities, LGBTQ+, first-generation, non-traditional, military-affiliated, etc.)
- Lead and align Student Health and Wellness strategies and resources with Division and University priorities and national best practices
- Recommend and monitor the usage of budget, personnel, and facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and optimal health and wellness service delivery to students. Coordinate and execute contracting for student health and wellness services.
- Collaborate with academic partners to expand and integrate student wellness education in the curriculum and co-curriculum
- Remain current in state and national college student health and wellness trends. Direct Student Health and Wellness departments’ participation in national college student wellbeing research and assessment initiatives (e.g., Healthy Minds Study; ACHA National Collegiate Health Assessment, etc.) and leverage data to effectively plan and communicate the impacts of strategies on student wellbeing and success
- Collaborate with the Dean of Students and the Executive Director for Residential Life to integrate student health, wellness, and support strategies for students of concern.
- Partner with the Director of Athletics and Recreation to integrate campus recreation programs with health education, mental and physical health services
- Review, revise, implement and monitor procedures and policies related to Student Health and Wellness to ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, Title IX, Clery Act, and other state and federal guidelines that govern the safety and wellness of students on college campuses
- Collaborate with University partners to identify and cultivate external funding opportunities (e.g., state, and federal grants, donors, etc.) to support student health and wellness
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs
- Support Stockton University’s diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission
Required Qualifications:
- Earned Doctorate in health care administration, public health, social work, counseling, higher education, or related field. Appropriate terminal degree, or evidence of probable completion of any of the previous qualifications by May 2022
- Evidence of understanding of FERPA, HIPAA, Title IX, Clery Act, and trends in legal liability within student health and college counseling center operations and awareness of federal and state guidelines that govern safety and wellness of students on college campuses
- Experience serving at the director level or above of a college/university health and wellness service area or relevant health care setting
- Evidence of strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, including the ability to convey information to a variety of audiences and develop recommendations to resolve challenges
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a college, university, or healthcare setting
- State licensure/certification or eligibility in the State of New Jersey within one year in health care related field (e.g., Counseling, Medicine, Social Work, Public Health, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of national issues, trends, and best practices impacting student health, wellness, and success
- Knowledge of licensure, certification requirements and professional development organizations for health care professionals
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, develop and manage professional staff in a collective bargaining environment
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, assessment, and communications and the ability to use data for decision-making
- Active involvement or leadership in college/university student health and wellness professional organizations (e.g., ACHA, AUCCCD, NASPA, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience implementing equity and inclusion-based health and wellness strategies
- Strong knowledge of best practices in college student counseling and psychological services
- Previous experience partnering with local healthcare providers to support student health and wellness
- Previous success cultivating student learning opportunities with academic partners in a college or university setting
- Prior experience cultivating and managing external financial resources (e.g., state, and federal grants, fundraising and development, etc.)
