The Miami Project is currently seeking a Post Doctoral Associate. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

Department Specific Functions

Job Summary (Purpose and Function):

The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be a critical member of a major scientific effort for a new NIH funded project. The work involves both in vitro assays and in vivo experiments that will support the development of novel therapeutics for spinal cord injury and other CNS disorders.

Accountabilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):

Conduct high content assays to screen small molecules for their ability to promote axon growth Do in vivo experiments using spinal cord injury models to test the efficacy of novel compounds, cDNAs or shRNAs.

Do routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT-PCR, prepare viral vectors) to support the in vitro and in vivo experiments

Perform immunochemical staining of tissue sections, and both florescent and confocal microscopy.

Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies, participate in weekly lab meetings, including presenting results and methods to group members; plan weekly work schedules. Keep detailed laboratory notebooks and maintain documents relating to standard-operating procedures and vectors. Prepare first drafts of manuscripts.

Occasionally will assist in training Post Docs, graduate students, undergraduates, and scholars.
