About the College/Unit/Department:

The Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication is a diverse group of award-winning researchers and teachers committed to Georgia’s land grant mission. Our work is focused on preparing agricultural educators to work in schools and other educational settings, evidence-based and theoretically-driven science- and agricultural-focused communication research, and the scholarship of organizational leadership as it relates to agricultural and environmental sectors. We are situated in a two-campus environment and have an excellent reputation for research, teaching, and extension activities. Two undergraduate majors are based in the Department: Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communication. In addition, students may pursue a certificate in leadership (uLEAD). At the graduate level, students are pursuing MS or Ph.D. degrees.

Position Summary:

9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position with responsibilities in research and instruction. The Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication (ALEC) at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with specialization in any of the department’s core areas of emphasis. We welcome applications from researchers conducting theory-driven, engaged scholarship with applied, translational implications from a strong social scientific foundation. Applicants should be trained in advanced quantitative data analysis skills (e.g., modeling, mediation and moderation analysis) and mixed methods design, and be prepared to teach existing and develop new research-oriented courses for our undergraduate and rapidly growing M.S. and Ph.D. curricula.

The successful candidate will (1) teach three graduate or undergraduate courses in the department per academic year (with the opportunity to design and teach new courses within their field of expertise); (2) advise M.S. and Ph.D. students; (3) advance the research mission of the department and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences through pursuit of external funding; (4) maintain an active research agenda with strong potential for generating citations to their work, publishing in relevant top-tier, high impact outlets; (4) engage in service to the department, college, university, and the discipline (providing strong representation for the department at the institutional and disciplinary levels in ways appropriate for their career stage).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

The strongest applicants will demonstrate the following: 1. A clearly-defined research program and a strong trajectory toward tenure and promotion, evidenced by a publication record and/or the potential for publication in relevant top-tier peer-reviewed journals.2. The ability to translate their research findings for practitioners and agricultural stakeholders.3. Evidence of the ability and motivation to ensure the sustainability of their research program by securing external funding. 4. The ability to contribute substantively to growing M.S. and Ph.D. programs through student mentoring about the research process, and demonstration of contemporary and high-level teaching and research methods.5. Potential for teaching excellence in undergraduate and graduate courses in their respective area of expertise, and the ability to teach a range of courses.
